A New Website Reflecting GIS Hong Kong’s Role in Global Markets

A working day in Hong Kong begins while much of Europe is still asleep. By the time London opens, Asian markets have already absorbed hours of announcements, economic data and investor activity. Later, attention moves west again towards the United States.

For GIS Hong Kong, this movement between regions is part of everyday business. It is also the idea at the heart of our new website.

The site has been developed to show how our Hong Kong presence supports activity that extends beyond a single market or time zone. It introduces the professionals working within the business, sets out our capabilities and explains how GIS Hong Kong fits alongside the larger UK business within the wider group.

Built around a market that rarely stands still

Hong Kong’s importance has never rested solely on geography. Its legal and regulatory framework, international outlook and connections with mainland China and global capital have given the city a particular role within Asian finance.

That role continues to evolve. Trading has become more electronic, and investors operate across a wider range of markets. Events in one region can affect prices elsewhere before another financial centre opens for the day. Access may be faster, but coordinating activity across jurisdictions is not necessarily simpler.

Our new website reflects this environment, placing greater emphasis on GIS Hong Kong’s coverage across Asian, UK, European and US trading hours, together with the infrastructure and professional support required to operate across those periods.

The focus is practical. Visitors should be able to understand where we operate, the clients we support and the role our Hong Kong base plays in maintaining connections across regional and international markets.

Why local knowledge has not become obsolete

The growth of electronic markets once led many to believe that location would gradually become irrelevant. In reality, greater connectivity has made local understanding more valuable in many situations.

Regulatory requirements differ, while liquidity changes throughout the trading day. Market conventions, settlement arrangements and responses to news can also vary between exchanges. These differences are not always obvious from a trading screen.

GIS Hong Kong brings together professionals with experience of operating in this environment. The website introduces the individuals responsible for different areas of the business and provides visitors with a better understanding of the experience supporting each area.

This is not about placing biographies ahead of substance. It is about showing who supports the activities described elsewhere on the site. Clearing, custody and execution depend on systems and counterparties, but they also rely on people who understand the markets involved and can communicate when circumstances require attention.

Hong Kong’s role within the GIS Group

Global Investment Strategy Hong Kong Limited is authorised and regulated by the Securities and Futures Commission. It sits within a wider group that also includes Global Investment Strategy UK Limited, an FCA-regulated firm and member of the London Stock Exchange.

GIS UK is the larger operating business and offers the broader range of group capabilities. Hong Kong adds something different: an established base in Asia, knowledge of regional markets and coverage that complements the UK operation across international trading hours.

The new website sets out that relationship without suggesting the two companies perform identical roles. Each operates within its own permissions and regulatory responsibilities. Their connection comes from belonging to the same wider group, with each contributing different experience, coverage and capabilities.

This gives visitors some very useful context: GIS Hong Kong can be understood both as a business with its own regional purpose and as part of a group with a presence in two major financial centres.

A more direct route through the business

One of the main aims of the new site was to provide a straightforward view of the services relevant to GIS Hong Kong clients. This includes clearing and custody, multi-asset trading, global trade execution, bond execution, and cross-border trading. The individual pages provide more detail on each capability and the desks that support it.

Visitors can also find regulatory information, onboarding routes, contact details and access to the Client Portal without having to search through unrelated material.

Our market commentary has also been restructured. The emphasis on APAC developments gives readers a view of the forces shaping the region, while the international nature of those stories reflects how rarely Asian markets can be considered in isolation. Currency developments, capital flows, regulation and changing trading relationships often move between regions just as quickly as investment itself.

The new site is intended to present GIS Hong Kong as a regulated business with its own people, regional knowledge and distinct place within an international group.

We invite clients, professional partners and those discovering GIS Hong Kong for the first time to explore the website and learn how the business supports market activity across Asia and beyond.
